As parents we have love for our children but we also have concern. Our desire is that they excel in school, that they pursue greatness, that they are successful in life, and that they do great things for God. To attain these we have the Word of God to help us. We know that prayer moves mountains, dispels fear, calms storms… so prayer, regular prayer, is something we MUST do for our children. Our greatest joy is seeing our children grow in the Lord, seeing their life transform and survive through the tumultuous teenage years loving God, His House, and you, his/her parents. Here are seven absolutes to pray over your children:
- Wisdom
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom
Proverbs 4:7 - Protection
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power ~ 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - Favour of God
But let those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love You name be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favour You will surround him with a shield. ~ Psalm 5:11, 12 - Boldness
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. ~ Ephesians 6:17-29 - Find and Fulfill their God-given Assignment
Since You are my rock and fortress, for the sake of Your name lead and guide me. ~ Psalm 31:3 - Find the Right Mate (It is never to early to begin praying for your child’s future mate!)
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favour from the Lord ~ Proverbs 18:22
The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail ~ Isaiah 58:11
- Strength to Resist Temptation
God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in time of trouble ~ Psalm 46:1
